Mission Statement

The Shoshone County Sheriff's Office Jail Division protects and serves the public by providing for the care, custody and control of pre-trial detainees and sentenced inmates. Detention deputies will be cost conscience in providing a safe, humane and professional environment for the inmates and office personnel. The Jail Division will strive to comply with the standards for jails set forth by the Idaho Sheriff’s association and other state and federal standards and laws.

The Shoshone County Jail was built in 1972 and houses 64 inmates. The jail houses state inmates, federal inmates and county inmates. The jail has nine staff members, one full time cook and one part time cook. The commanding staff includes Sgt Lance Stutzke, Sgt Rance Chaffin, Lt Sam Groves and Capt Rick Smith. 

The Sheriff’s Labor Program began in the summer of 2000 with the Jail Division running the program. The Sheriff’s Labor Program has a number of responsibilities. The main responsibility is to serve the public, and this is done by helping the elderly with snow removal, lawn work, splitting wood. The program also picks up trash on the freeways and county road ways.

Visiting Hours for Inmates

Tuesdays & Thursdays …. 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm
Saturdays …. 1:00 to 7:30 pm

Money may be placed on an inmate’s books, and other items are accepted only on visiting days at visiting hours. All items will be checked, and if allowed, then given to the inmate. Mail will only be accepted by the U.S. Mail carrier; newspapers will only be accepted by a newspaper carrier.
