1. Commissioned personnel are sworn to enforce the ordinances of The State of Idaho, The County of Shoshone, and the Federal Law of the United States of America stipulated within the Constitution and the laws therein. We are dedicated to protect and serve the public. We are ready to establish the mechanisms that allow the community to live in peace and safety within the County of Shoshone.
2. The Patrol Division consists of deputies assigned to the Search and Rescue and Special Response Team. Located in the main Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office Building in Wallace, the patrol division also has a Satellite Office located in Smelterville City Hall. We, as a Sheriff’s Office, are dedicated to serving our community. We will evaluate community needs continuously and make appropriate adjustments to meet those needs.

3. The Division consists of two patrol lieutenants (field supervisors), 14 patrol deputies, two school resources officers (SRO’s) for Kellogg High School/Middle School and Wallace High School. In addition, the Patrol Division has geographical responsibilities which require a full time patrol deputy on the St. Joe River. Although based out of St. Maries, the St. Joe River deputy holds dual Commission in both Benewah and Shoshone County.
4. Within the Patrol Division, there is provision for Animal Safety and Control. This is a shared mutually supportive appointment embraced by Pinehurst PD and Osburn PD. The animals may be taken into shelter in an emergency. Each patrol shift typically is commanded by a Lieutenant. This division operates 24 hours per day, seven days a week.
The functions of the Uniform Patrol Division are preventing violations of statutes and ordinances suppressing disturbances, investigating accidents, enforcing traffic laws, directing traffic, responding to calls for service and patrolling of residential and business areas. Whenever law enforcement assistance is required, the Patrol Division is the first to respond. Deputies of this Division are highly trained in various specializations, including traffic accident investigation. The Shoshone County’s Sheriff’s Office has also developed a Special Response Team (S.R.T.) which is available to respond to critical incidents.

5. The Mission of the SRT is to respond in a time effective manner, to any given situation, within Shoshone County, which has been designated an Emergency situation and is outside the capability of the Patrol Division.

6. Special Idea: The SRT shall be deployed to any given hostile situation in a tactical manner. The SRT will operate defined Rules of Engagement within United States of America Constitution, State of Idaho Legislation and Shoshone County Sheriff Office Standing Orders. Training – Operations – Administration is an integral triangular concept, which results in “Mission Success”. Failure to follow the established structure ultimately results in unnecessary loss of life, destruction of property and enormous liability at departmental and personal level.
